Monster.

A bit of looking back on this clear, cold January 2nd.

A year ago, I noted this:

I like to look back at the stats for my sites on New Years Day, and this morning the numbers for BBTI look quite impressive. Altogether we had 1,394,796 hits to the site in the last year (total since the initial launch is now 1,740,629).

My, how things have grown in the last year. Sometimes I feel like we’ve created a monster. Let’s look at the numbers…

December 2010 we had 457,007 total hits. That’s more than three times the number we had in December 2009. For the entire year, numbers were more than double what we did in 2009 – a total of 2,894,355 hits. With the exception of June 2010, each month in the last year was bigger than the month previous. And our total hits since we launched the site as of December 31 was 4,634,984. We’ll probably break 5 million hits before the end of January.

Wow. Just . . . wow.

This blog, as little as I post here (only 30 posts in the entire year – compare that to the over 200 for my personal blog) had over 17,000 visits. That actually beats my very well-established personal blog by almost a thousand.

Now, I don’t expect that the pace of things will continue to accelerate the way it has. There will be natural dips and valleys, perhaps even a long-term leveling off. But we’re planning on finally conducting our cylinder-gap tests this spring (now that all the equipment and ammo has arrived), and that should help generate interest in our project. We’ll see.

So, a hearty thanks to all who have helped make BBTI so popular – to all the folks who have passed on a link to their friends, or cited our site in discussions in various forums. Speaking of such, here are the top ten referring sites for 2010 (excluding search engines and this blog):

  1. en.wikipedia.org
  2. www.mouseguns.com
  3. www.thehighroad.org
  4. thefiringline.com
  5. www.reddit.com
  6. www.thefirearmblog.com
  7. www.survivalblog.com
  8. www.m4carbine.net
  9. www.defensivecarry.com
  10. www.ar15.com

You’ve all be generous, and our success has been directly due to that support. Thanks.

I’ve been thinking about revamping this blog, so perhaps we’ll see some changes here in the next few weeks – gotta do something before it is time to start the next round of tests, after all.

Have a great New Year, everyone – happy & safe shooting to you all!
